So you want to take voice lessons? You are in a good place to find the right teacher. Most reputable teachers will have a website for their business. Finding the right teacher for you will take some time but it will be well worth it. A good teacher/student fit is priceless and you’ll know when you found it. You and your teacher will “click”. Here are a couple of questions to ask while in your search.
1) Are they working professional singers? If they can make a living singing, they are probably skilled singers. Is that important to you? Do they have a voice you listen to and like? That is a pretty big deal. They are going to be teaching you their technique. You should like their voice.
2) How long have they been teaching? Do they have a degree in music performance or music education? Do they have a solid education in vocal pedagogy. The more they know about how the voice works, the more they know what your particular issues are and how to fix them.
3) Do you like them? Are you comfortable being vulnerable in front of them? Do they inspire you to be better? Hopefully all the answers to these questions are ‘yes.’
Good luck!!!
