About Jocelyn

The owner, Jocelyn, is an independent vocal and music teacher, as well as a professional singer and recording artist. She has been teaching for 10 years and performing for 15 years.  One of her greatest joys as a teacher is to help singers find their voice and unique sound while building a foundation of lasting vocal technique and fostering their overall musicianship.  Jocelyn received her Bachelor’s Degree in Vocal Music Education and studied choral education, early childhood music, jazz and classical voice, as well as vocal pedagogy. She is also certified in the Gordon Music Learning Technique specializing in ages birth through five.

T eacher: Jocelyn specializes in the teaching areas of voice (jazz, classical, or pop/rock), beginner to intermediate piano, ear training/sight singing, and songwriting.  Through the years, she has had the pleasure of teaching all levels of students from beginners to advanced.  While she teaches all ages, her vocal studio primarily consists of ages 10 to adults.  For younger vocal students, Jocelyn uses more of a holistic music education approach based on the Gordon Music Learning Theory. Her students include  actors, comedians, professional singers,  beginning/amateur singers, singer/songwriters, public speakers, and instrumentalists.  During lessons, she tailors her instruction carefully to her students needs, emphasizing:

• Healthy Vocal Technique
• Range Extension/Utilization
• Use of Breath and Support
• Tone Quality
• Projection
• Genre Stylizing
• Performance Techniques
• Practice Techniques
• Music Theory/Ear Training
• Overall Musicianship

V ocalist: Her experience as a vocalist ranges from touring and performing as a singer/songwriter to singing on movies to backing up Patti Labelle and John Legend.  She has sung professionally in Chicago, Nashville, and Los Angeles.  Currently, she works as a independent recording artist, session & demo singer, a special event vocalist, and church staff singer.

S inger/Songwriter:  She has been recording and writing songs since 2001.  She has released three albums, dozens of singles, and spent four years touring nationally.  Her recordings have garnered over 22 millions plays on Spotify and over a million plays on Youtube.  Jocelyn was also one of ten singer/songwriters out of 17,000 to be chosen as a finalist in the Guitar Center Whooznxt Competition.  She was one of ten songwriters chosen throughout the country for the ASCAP Nashville Pop Songwriters workshop with hit songwriter Darryl Brown, one of 12 composers for the first ever Johnny Mercer Songwriters Project, and one of fourteen chosen to parcipate in the ASCAP Lester Sills workshop.
